The 1Q20 litter between Callie and Callen was certainly one of the best litters we've produced at CrossPoint Kennel. Just a tremendous blend of bold, curious pups - that are also cool as a cucumber when held or inside the house. The male pup that I kept took about 5 minutes to crate train, and was basically potty trained in 2 weeks with no more than two or three accidents in the house during that time. Yet - at the same time, he was very intense on quail wings and bold with our other dogs. This is exactly the type of dog we are striving to produce at CrossPoint Kennel - top quality companion gundogs that are fantastic bird dogs, confident and bold, but also very easy to live with in a household setting. We've heard similar reports from customers of this litter who've just been thrilled with the excellent temperaments of these pups. Having owned several dogs in the past, my wife is convinced that our male pup from this litter is the best we've had so far.
Therefore, we are planning to repeat this breeding between our Callie (CrossPoint's Odyssey Caledonia Braveheart MH) and Callen - NAGDC / DC / AFC Odyssey's Cool-J Callen in 4Q20. Breeding should take place in October, with pups born in December, and ready for new homes in February time-frame. Callen's sire - FC Keg's Creek Rising Cooper was a FC Sire of the Year and son of HoF, NFC Tonelli's Rising Sun. Callen's ancestor's on his sire's side represent some of the best Moesgaard line of GSP's of the past thirty years. Callen's dam, was a daughter of HoF, DC / AFC / BISS Odyssey's Sam St. Max MH - and also included a strong line of Moesgaard GSP's in her mother-line. So, in Callen we have a dynamic pairing of high performing Moesgaard GSP's combined with the Greif/Hustler genetics represented in Sam St. Max. The result, Callen is one of the few National Champions that also has the physical characteristics to be a show champion as well.
Callen was nationally competitive at a young age - taking RU at the Southeastern Continental Championship at 3 years of age (2nd out of 35 dogs entered in an OLGD stake). Two years later, he won the National Amateur Gundog Championship (1st out of 39 starters). So - no doubt, Callen is a power-house in the field. However, in the house, Callen is calm and laid back. He has that on/off switch that we all enjoy with well-mannered, well-bred GSP's.
Callie's sire is a direct son of Sam Saint Max - - FC/AFC / NWGDC Odyssey's Perfect Traveler (Charlie). Charlie took 1st place at the 2019 AKC NWGDC, finished as RU in the 2018 AKC National Walking Gundog Championship (NWGDC), and was 2nd RU in two separate National Amateur Gundog Championships. Thus, you can be quite assured that these pups will be genetically programmed to be fantastic upland bird dogs with both the sire and grand-sire winning 1st place or RU at multiple national field trials.
Callie's aunt - (Charlie's full sister, Dani) DC Odyssey's Twilight Dancer was bred to Callen in 2014, and that mating produced NAGDC / DC / AFC Odyssey's Saint Rocco. Thus, this combination of genetics represented by Sam x Rudy offspring x Callen has produced nationally competitive gundogs, that we are hoping to replicate with this mating of Callie to Callen.
Callie's dam, Impressive Kazoya Rusty Mia Reduxx MH (Reba) comes from a long line of NSTRA champions, with many of her close relatives being ranked in NSTRA's national top 10. Reba was steady to wing-shot-and-fall at 10 months of age. She was able to point and hold sharptail grouse at 11 months of age, and acquired her Senior Hunter title at 18 months of age. She completed her Master Hunter title at 27 months of age with less than one month of professional training. Callie inherited much of Reba's easy handling traits, naturally steady to wing-shot-and fall, natural retrieving - with even a better nose. Callie is a flat-out bird finder.
More on Callie:
Combining Callen x Callie gives your pups a pedigree with 25 dogs in their six generation pedigree that were either Hall of Fame or National Champions. These pups will have very strong imprinting from Sam Saint Max, but also include contributions from Hall of Fame FC/AFC Rusty's Blue Earth Rexx and Hall of Fame Dixeland's Rusty. In short, this litter will combine some of the best of Moesgaard line GSP's paired with strong Greif / Hustler breeding.
Not only will these pups be great, natural bird dogs - but they will also make great companions for the home. These dogs should be calm in the house, even tempered, and a pleasure to have around you. In the house, Callie simply wants to lay on the couch next to you - calm, not bouncing off the walls like some GSPs. These pups should be easily trained - and competitive at any of the gun dog sports - Hunt Tests, AKC Field Trials, NSTRA, or NAVHDA.
Bottom line - this should be a great litter of natural bird-dog puppies with great temperaments, good conformation, and all built on a legacy of high performing, biddable dogs.
